I am looking to buy the Acer predator xb270hu for my system, or if the price is affordable on release, the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q, and they are both 1440p with 144hz and 165hz respectively; I have the following computer parts in my computer:
CPU: AMD FX 8350
GPU: GTX 780 TI
RAM: G.SKILL 1866mhz 16Gb of RAM
MOBO: Asrock 970 extreme4
PSU: 750W

Is this powerful enough to run 1440p while taking advantage of the high refresh rates in most games? Or do I have to upgrade my parts to suit the power needed. Also any tips in what I should upgrade anyway would be helpful.

no, you would struggle to reach 60 fps at 1440p unless you were trying to play csgo

you would need minimum two 780 ti's along with a complete system rebuild

Thanks for the quick reply, when you say complete system rebuild, what would you recommend? Keep in mind that it would take at least 6 months to afford a new monitor along side a complete system rebuild, and do you think an upgrade to a 980Ti will do the trick?

sli 980 ti should be your optimal target, if you intend to take full advantage of those monitors

with that in mind you would need the appropriate cpu, mobo, and psu to keep up

That is a lot more money than I was expecting, well, I guess I have to wait a year or two to afford that *sigh*.

You don't necessarily need a 980 TI sli but it would make it that much better.. If only you could sli different GPUs like a 980 Ti with a 970. Though you could get two AMD r9 390x and cross fire them or a 390x and a 390(I am very positive it will work though I don't know how much of a benefit it seriously has since I haven't watched any benchmarks with it). They are around $400 a piece and the 390 is around $300. They 390 is on par and even beats the 970.. Though the 390x is supposed to compete with the 980(Non Ti) The 980 definitely is more powerful, but the 390x comes with a much better price tag.. (They will require a larger PSU though like at least 850W)

To be honest I would like to stick to Nvidea, I am not a fanboy or anything, it just provides benefits such as Gsync (I know there is freesync but IMO gsync performs a little better) and other stuff,I am just gonna put up with my crappy 1400x900 monitor for now, at least I know that I can run games at higher performance with the lower resolution, and then I can afford these things in the future.

Yeah waiting can be a good thing because next thing you know a 970 ti or something will come out with 6gb of vram and it will blow the r9 out of the universe. Though I don't really know how things are released in the PC market since I am very new.

Sorry for the late reply, if a 970Ti was to release, it wouldn't be as powerful as the 980Ti as the Ti's are just better version of the direct predecessor, in this case, the 970, ans apparently I need 2X980Ti's so if a 970Ti was to release it would not be enough.

Well I was saying it like a 970 Ti would have 6gb of vram like the 980 ti. Speculation of course. And, you don't need two 980 ti's for 1440p unless you are running like 2 or 3 monitors. One should be enough from the stuff I read, but it might not be as crazy good as a single at 1080p
