So at the moment i have 4 x 4GB sticks of ram all running at 1866MHz, and i was wondering if going from that to 3x 4GB of ram with an 8GB stick in to would cause any problems or not work so well? ( maybe better to wait until i can swap out 2 of the 4GB sticks for 2 of 8GB sticks?

Any input is valued, and thanks in advance.

EDIT: i have a Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX Motherboard and i checked CPU-Z and it says my ram is running in duel channel mode.
I have these 2 sets of ram:

Generally mixing two different brands/models of DRAM is a bad idea and there is a good chance they won't work together. What motherboard do you have?

If you have 4x4GB - are they running in quad channel?
If so, you may actually feel performance suffer slightly using an 1x8GB+ 3x4GB setup.

As has been stated, you may also run into compatibility issues (I've personally never experienced it myself, any configuration I've tried has worked).
