connecting ps3 to 900p monitor(samsung syncmaster s20b300)

I am trying to connect ps3 to my monitor via vga to hdmi adapter.But I am getting a blank screen with recommended mode: 1600X900:60Hz error.

There is no such thing as a VGA to HDMI adapter. VGA is analog. HDMI is digital. They are incompatible. The adapters people sell will not work.

You have to use an active converter box to change the signal.

I am connecting the same adapter to my graphic card and it is working fine.

Ahun that doesn't work you need to do this:
(I also use the same method below)

First thing first as i checked your monitor on Samsung website it has DVI Input which you should be using for console/hdmi input.

Now as you have dvi on your monitotor and hdmi on the ps3 u need this cable

its an Hdmi to dvi cable.

Use this to get the display it should work fine if the resolution on the ps3 is set to 900p or less.

but now you need to get sound i used to get sound by connecting the standard ps3 rca (red,white and yellow cable) to a jack that was giving to my speaker/headphone something like this:

so here you go.

What we are doing is getting sound and display separately. Display from Hdmi on the ps3 and sound from the rca connector on the ps3.

yeah, I am doing the exact same thing. I am just using vga instead of dvi.
Now if i get the hdmi-dvi cable, would i be able to play without any resolution compatibility issue.
Will my ps3 automatically adjust its resolution according to my monitor or will i still get optimum resolution error.

No resolution issues on the Hdmi-dvi cable, the most clear and sharpest image is also on this cable the ps3 should work just fine but even if it gives you an out of resolution error (although it shouldn't) just chill and do this:

When your ps3 is off, turn it back on, but keep your finger on the power button till it beeps again, your ps3 will automatically adjust the resolution to the display it is connected to.

Hi again, Finally got my dvi-hdmi cable but when I turn my monitor mode to dvi nothing happens.
My problem is somewhat similar to this

if this is the problem do this:

this is strange the method i told you works perfectly for my ps3 and xbox, does the ps3 work with the tv already ? and the monitor with any other source ?

one last thing i would say set the resolution using ur tv in ur ps3 to 900p then try on monitor; if it wont work i am out of solutions xD

Tried, looks like I have to bring a tv too to my hostel room
