I have an ASUS VG278HE for gaming, but im looking to get a second monitor,
mainly for reading, movies etc. As such i am looking at some ips monitors as i heard they had better colors.
specifically i have been looking at these 2:

Dell 25" UltraSharp U2515H : http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2515H-25-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00SPWPF1O

ASUS 27" VX279Q : http://www.amazon.com/VX279Q-27-Inch-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00DBVPOZG/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1446553843&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+vx279q

I'd very much like to hear your opinions on these monitors,
or if you would recommend other monitors which you mean would be better.
just please try to keep price below 412 $

Using the Proshop website, the ASUS 29" MX299Q is listed at 3,056 Kr or about 357 USD. So in regards to price, it may be hard for me to suggest a panel based on price because I'm not familiar with how to correctly estimate the cost for ya.

Is amazon your preferred e-tailer?

Ever considered an ultrawide? For watching movies, reading, web/media browsing, and productivity it probably represents a bit more value for the money compared to a 27" 16:9 panel.

This ASUS 29" AH-IPS 21:9 panel looks promising. I would buy it over the Dell, that panel is a bit pricey for 60Hz IPS.

Have never used amazon, i preferably use proshop which is a danish e-tailer. i used the amazon links as i guesed the majority here wouldn't understand danish, now that i think about it it seems pretty unneccesary.

the monitor you linked is interesting, sadly in the more "local" e-tailers i know its a bit outside my price range at about 450 $

I only made a point in mentioning the Ultrawide because they really are awesome to use (I have one myself), are perfect for the tasks you listed in your OP, and give you a little bit more bang for your buck when compared to 27" 16:9 panel.

25" is a bit small for me, but Dell makes great monitors. The ASUS is a good value and since most media content is 1080, the Dell's resolution won't make much sense if the panel isn't going to be used for gaming and the ASUS is 27".

A review of the ASUS:
http://thepcenthusiast.com/asus-vx279-review-27-inch-monitor/
After testing and using the Asus VX279 for several weeks, there’s one thing I want to do, call my friend from Asus and ask him if I can keep the monitor. Why? Because I do not want to go back to my old monitor as my main monitor, really! Unfortunately, I have to return it to them. Watching movies on the 27-inch Asus VX279 was fantastic. We don’t have to position our heads parallel to the display anymore; we can perfectly watch movies/videos at any angle we want. The display was also significantly brighter compared to my old LCD monitors. Editing photos and videos was also a better experience, but it did take a little time for me to adjust regarding the text, though.
I also like the design in general and the thin bezel. But I think Asus can do better than that by making the bezel thinner than 0.8mm. I really can’t complain about the quality of built-in speakers, but I wish Asus would put back lights on the labels for the menu, specially that they are using touch sensitive buttons. You can’t see the labels at all, specially if there are no other lights (except the one coming from the monitor itself). It’s really hard to guess if your finger is positioned beneath the right button that you want to press. And one thing that I didn’t like about this monitor is that it didn’t have VESA mount or wall mounting support, or even a height adjustment.
Well, most of my rants where really not on the display itself, but on the other features or functions which Asus could have incorporated in this monitor. And those are just minor complaints, and serves as room for improvements that we would like to see in their upcoming monitors. Nevertheless, the 27-inch Asus VX279 monitors is a well built and great IPS display monitor. Considering the overall design and the price of the Asus VX279, it deserves the PC Enthusiast’s Highly Recommended Award.

I think you may have used the exchange rate of the swedish kr, an easy mistake, with the danish exchange rate the 3.056 kr is 449,71 USD.

if it wasn't for the ultrawide being out of my price range i would very likely go for it.
having read the review you linked on the asus im leaning towards that one more,

maybe i should just save a bit more and go for the ultrawide in the end.

Yeah like I said, I'm not sure on recommending based on my interpretation of price. By all means, I'm not saying don't get a cheaper panel in favor of the more expensive ultrawide. It is just that when I, personally, am going to spend a good chunk of cash on technology, I like to research all my options to see what can be had in my budget. Which is why I brought up the ultrawide.

Ultrawides are cool and awesome but are by no means necessary.
