Grand Theft Auto Cash

I recently purchased GTA V from my local game store. I purchased the disk's and have installed and redeemed my code to activate the game. I have linked the game on steam as a 'non steam game'. If i purchase GTA cash via steam (since i have a 20 pound gift code) will it work with my GTA or do I have to purchase the game through steam to be able to do that.

Someone on there says that if your Rockstar Games Social Club account is linked with your steam account, they you will be able to use your steam wallet balance to pay for the shark cards on the Rockstar Warehouse.
