Is it possible to make a dvi-i cable work on a dvi-d port?

So i wanted to buy a dvi-d to hdmi in my local store but the employees there did a mistake and they wont take it back they gave me a dvi-i to hdmi my question is can i use pliers or something like that to make it work on a dvi-d slot? also english is not my native language so please forgive me for any mistakes EDIT: I ment to use pliers to remove the four pins

I wouldn't try. Just take the cable back and ask for a replacement.

If the cable will not plug into the adapter provided, I would not remove anything by force, instead return to the store and ask for a replacement. In my experience most DVI cables will work fine with most DVI adapters.
