Is 16GB the new standard for this next generation of gaming?

Hey everyone,

So I'm going to give a brief run through of my situation to provide better details for the question stated above. Recently I played Witcher 3 with 8GB of preinstalled crappy ram from my XPS 8300. However midway through the game my computer crashed and I was forced to unplug the power, and later on I found out that I now had faulty RAM (possibly due to the crash and force shut off).

Many people have told me 8GB is enough, but what I have noticed was that these remarks were also said a while ago, possibly around 2-3 years ago or so. But with these new intensive games coming out is it better to just upgrade to 16GB?

Also another question which is actually important for the rest of my understanding. I currently use a GTX 750 Ti OC 2GB and a PSU of 450w. The requirements for the 750 ti is a minimum of 400w. I don't know if that is enough but is this what caused my computer to crash leading to faulty ram or was it just having crappy ram in the first place that caused my computer to crash?

I appreciate everyone's help in advance!

Also if anyone could clarify this for me, I don't want to fill up another post but is this RAM compatible with an XPS 8300 motherboard? I'll put the specs of the XPS and the RAM as well.

Quick question, how did you determine that my motherboard cannot accept 8GB modules? I find this a problem since buying 4x4 modules is a bit more expensive than just buying 2x8 modules :(
