Getting ready for a massive upgrade and I am going to sell the primary parts of my old rig and would like to see what i should get for it.

ASUS P67 Sabertooth paid $200
Intel I5-2500k W/Cooler Master V6 GT paid about $400 and $60 i believe
8gb of Mushkin Redline Enhanced 2800MHz DDR3 RAM paid between $125 and $200
2 GTX 580 3gb Lighting Xtreme Editions paid $600 a piece

All parts in pristine condition, super cooled all the time never running over 55 degrees centigrade.
im guessing since it can still do every new game maxed out 30+ fps, including Fallout 4/Witcher 3/Crysis 3 60 fps/ Far Cry 4 50fps/etc
That i should be able to get ~$400-600 for it?
What do you guys think

what you paid for it doesn't matter anymore - it's 2-3 generations old, and mostly obsolete, even though perfectly functional. but i would be surprised if you could even get close to 50% resale value.

on the flip side, since it can do every new game maxed out at 30fps or more, why are you even bothering to upgrade? it would seem you have money to burn, so resale value should be of no concern.

I paid over 1400 so if i could get 400 or 500 id be happy

I am upgrading as i usually do every 3 or so years, and I may have some money saved but every bit helps. Selling this for 500 would mean i could go with my 980TI 3 way SLI or dual Titan builds vs just a 980TI SLI build if i cant

I hope you didn't pay $400 for an i5-2500k, should have been about $250 brand new and closer to $220 after they were out for a while.

Well over a year ago I managed to get a used ASUS DCUII GTX580 for $200. Looks like there are quite a few going for quite a bit less. I think your estimate is about right. Have to weigh your price versus what they could get buying new parts.

Dual 580s is about a GTX780 in terms of performance IIRC.

I have similar hardware in my old backup rig except 680s instead of 580s. Again, forget about what you paid for the parts. They are only worth what someone is willing to buy them for. Right now on eBay there's an EVGA 580 under bidding for a current top bid of $77 and another flat offer for $100 (I'm assuming you are referring to US dollars). So at best I'd expect someone who *wanted* to buy those cards pays $150-$200.

Now your CPU, motherboard, cooler, and memory I would expect to fetch no more than $200, maybe $250. Again, that is if someone is in the market for several generations old CPU chipset and GPU technology. Those 580s are very power hungry and heat prone considering their performance relevance by today's standards, and likely you may only find people wanting to buy a single one to upgrade to their own SLI.

So you are in the ball park estimate of $400-$450, again *if* you find someone who is willing to buy all components at the same time. You may need to break up your components and sell them separately as there is a market for people looking to replace single components that have failed in their own rigs (like I had to replace a dead ASUS P8P67 motherboard). Good luck!

PS: just curious why you are shooting for such high end GPU expense (dual Titans or triple 980Ti). And FYI a third 980Ti is a massive loss of dollar increase per frame rate increase over two of them (serious diminished returns).

The 2500k was 400 when they very first came out, so thats what i paid.

The 580 3gb Lighting Xtreme cant be compared to other 580's
They where a special model with extreme OC capabilities that allowed them surpas any of the others and where better stock aswell if i remember right.
They usually ran 1.5 times the price of other 580's on the market from what i saw

And yeah, i am leaning towards dual titans for the build over 3 980ti's because of that
Just building a nice 4k 3d gaming rig thatll last awhile

My 2600K was $315 when I bought it the week it was released in January 2011. The 2500K was never more than $250. The 2500K will get you around $125-$150 pretty easily because of how well they overclock. The motherboard would maybe add $50 and the GTX 580s will get you about $100 ( selling for $120 on ebay but ebay gets 10% ) each. You can get a used 780 Ti for $200 and that single card is faster than both of yours in Sli with none of the hassle and without the limited VRAM. 8GB of DDR3 2400+ is about $60 new. You might get $30-$40 for that kit used. So if you part it out and you get lucky in finding someone who wants a 580 or two you might get $450-500.

Best upgrade for you unless you need Z1xx chipset features is to keep what you have except the graphics cards. Replace them with a single 980 Ti and you can max everything at 1440p for a few more years.

It was 400 from Newegg man, i even still have my receipt and it was 389 and tax or something very close to that. Maybe i had some warranty added but still no way that was 150. OR maybe i just got ripped by newegg and never realized. I ordered it that same week as well.

Yeah about 100 to 160 is what i see them for as well on ebay and other places.

yeah, i going for just 450, or 500 if i pay for shipping the parts.

My new build will be a 2600k, 16gb ddr4 3200, Asus Maximus Hero VIII, and 2 980TI Classifieds.
Selling this rig will be paying for my new external drive, ssd, possibly a new case, and psu basically.
