I picked up some used G Skill Trident X F3-2400C9D-8GTXD.4x4 gb sticks that are 9 11 11 31.They run great but I want to see what these CL 9's will do.Recomendations on OC to 2600 or tighten these up at 2400 appreciated.Any timings and voltage I can try.My motherboard is a Z97 msi mpower max ac with a I7 4790k oc.d to 4.8 with 1.245 v.

With those dimms, shouldn't be a problem to do either or both. You could try 2600 at same timings, if they are unstable add 0.05v or loosen timings to 10-12-12-36. Conversely you could also try 2400 at 8-10-10-29 and if unstable add 0.05v or change back to 8-10-10-31 etc. Those tridents are very good dimms and will usually take a decent amount of OC, exactly how much is anyone's guess,

My Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 1866MHz come default 9-9-9-24 2x 1.5v 1600. XMP 10-11-10-30 2T 1866 1.5v. I've taken them to 2400 at 10-12-11-29 1T 1.60v stable and 7-9-8-24 1T 1.515v stable. What was wierd, was even though the timings suggest faster speeds at 2400, the pc seemed to take longer to get off the black spinning windows logo screen, (I'd get the full design instead of the normal 1/2 way) and with the tighter timings I'd see no difference at all. Ended up going back to plain Jane XMP settings as this wasn't overworking the ram, overwhelming the memory controller and is perfectly stable for my 4.6GHz 3770k

OC if you want to, but chances are very good that whatever your highest XMP setting is, is going to be the best all around performance, and you can count on it being stable, you'll probably not notice any performance difference other than raised temps on the cpu (that's where the MC is in Haswell tech) and could possibly lead to instability of your current OC without a bump in voltage to balance the greater workload on the MC.
