Hi everyone, first time PC builder here!

So I have decided that I was going to take the plunge and build my own gaming PC from scratch after having gamed on a potato (uh, laptop) for way too long. :D

Since I have never built a PC before I would be very grateful if you guys could give me your thoughts on the parts I picked, or suggest better alternatives. Unfortunately I have to stick to a budget so I can't really afford anything too flashy yet, though I would like to upgrade eventually when I have saved up a bit more. So I'm thinking below $1000 for now, but I also don't want to cut corners too much - not sure how possible that is. :D

After doing research I chose the following (links added):
(you can also find my list here http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6kKnzy)

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5 GHz Quad-Core (CPU)
Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 380 4GB GDDR5 256bit PCI-E (Video Card) - or would Sapphire be better?
Mobo: MSI z97S SLI Krait Editzion ATX LGA1150 (Motherboard)
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury White 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (RAM)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 3.5" 1TB 64MB SATA3 WD10EZEX (HDD)
PSU: either Corsair CX500M, or Seasonic S12II-520 (SS-520GB) 520W , not sure which would be better? PSU Corsair , PSU Seasonic
Case: COOLER MASTER N300 (Case)

As for the OS I'm thinking 64-bit Windows 8.1.

Many thanks in advance, I appreciate the help :) Also, please be nice, I know I'm still kind of a n00b. :D

Thanks for the tip! I was thinking of going for an SSD eventually, but have to save up for that first :D
For the video card would you recommend the MSI or Sapphire version? I tried looking into it but I couldn't really find anything that could help me decide. Also, will it be enough to run newer games for a while?

I'd do this for $1000.
