How do I back up windows to a "EXTERNAL Hard drive"???????

I keep getting the message INSERT cd!!!!
I bought an EXTERNAL Hard drive to avoid any CDs

Check your drive lettering.

Did you assign a drive letter to the external HD? It is a USB connection?

I use the Apricorn device - gives me a full clone of the installed HDD.

I have the same device but did not use their cloning software.

So did a clone succeed or are you trying to clone and getting the "insert a CD" message?

When the HDD is plugged in via the Apricorn, what does Disk Management report?

They sell a device on Amazon for about $30 - comes with software. It is USB 3 to SATA and is meant only for small (size wise) drives. The clone you create could be dropped into your computer as a replacement and the machine would never know the difference.

I have been using Apricorn and their software for several years.

The question I am trying to address is why does the Apricorn connected hard drive believe it is a CD drive and asking "insert CD"?
