About 4K 60hertz vs 1440p 144hertz Monitors. Also some specs just in case.

Is it possible to run games like Grand Theft Auto PC on a 4K monitor but still achieve 60fps?

Here's the monitor I am considering to buy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236399

If not, I'll probably get a 1440p monitor with 144 hertz.

Also here are the computer parts I might buy if needed:

Dual NVIDIA GTX 980 Ti Graphics Cards with SLI Bridge
ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO Gaming Motherboard
Intel Core i7 6700K Skylake Processor
Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB Solid State Drive
G.SKILL Ripjaw Series 8 (2 x 4) RAM
Corsair 750W Power Supply
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Fan
1TB Internal Hard Drive
Cooler Master HAF X Full Tower Desktop Case

Feel free to make any recommendations for what I should change in my computer specs!

2x980ti's will do 4K@60 or 1440p at probably 120 or 144. Not much GPU bottleneck there. Your choice on smoother frame rate, but bit lower resolution or super high resolution but lower frame rate. I would proably go 1440p at 144, just because then as newer games come out, you will still have lots of headroom to play at 1440p @ 60fps.

I would look for a gsync 1440p monitor though to get nice smooth, no jittering frames.

I have a 4K TV hooked up that does 4K@30fps, or 1080p@120fps, and while 4K video looks AMAZING, playing battlefield at 120fps is so butter smooth. Even the way the mouse glides at 120fps in windows is nice.

Do you think any 120 - 144hertz 4K Monitors will be released in the upcoming year or two? Anyways, thanks for the help and I will definitely take those things into consideration when I buy my computer build. :)

I don't think current displayport can do 4k@144 yet. Maybe, not sure, but I think it will be a year or so before they come out. Hard to say. Things move fast in the tech world nowadays.

4K for 4K content looks amazing, so if that is your main concern, 4K. faster refresh is nice though too, just go for gsync.
