Most often when a program does freeze and then crashes on its own it was either due to the OS, the program or a certain environment of both software and hardware. In the latter case the issue may be as bad as a machine that has hung or worse gives off a BSOD instantaneously while in the former the program itself may have crashed and any data you were working with on in that particular program was lost.
If it doesn't cause a BSOD then its a good thing but if you have programs that die while you work - well it's going to get frustrating if you're shooting for productivity. Event viewer displays programs that may be an issue to your Windows environment.
