Hi all.

I'm going for a new build over the weekend and I'm wondering if I should change my HDD just because it's getting old, or can I use it if I don't have any failure warning signs? Note that I will be getting an SSD.

My current HDD is Seagate ST31000333AS.

Hello 2JZGTE,

You can certainly keep an old drive in use, I just wouldn't recommend keeping any important data on it unless it is also backed up somewhere else.

Old drives can crash quite suddenly without any warning whatsoever, but as long as what you have on it isn't critical there's no reason not to use it for as long as you can.
