Windows has been warning me about my hard-drive for a little while now, I did a back-up and thought I'd take the prompt to upgrade to an SSD - Samsung EVO 850, 500gb.

I decided to do a clean install on the new SSD - of Windows 7.

I unplugged my old hard-drive and installed Windows 7 DVD to the SSD, but when I change my boot
settings in my BIOS my PC apparently recognises the device attached
but says it is ATAPI Incompatible.

I've changed from IDE to AHCI on the BIOS - and back again now, it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

I have also updated the BIOS too, to the latest I could find on the ASUS site.

At the moment, I've reverted to my old hard-drive - I don't know how long that'll last though, I could try cloning although at the moment I have 900gb of stuff on my drive...

I can post some photos and my hardware shortly...

Sorry, this is all new to me... :O

Reading around some more, is what I need to install a load of specific drivers on the new SSD? On-top of the Windos install... presumably including ones to make it ATAPI compatible?

You need to enable AHCI in windows as well not just the BIOS

1. Startup "Regedit
2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
3. Open msahci
4. In the right field left click on "start" and go to Modify
5. In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"

Reboot and then make another image and use that one on the SSD. Use this http://www.todo-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-software.htm
