Hello,

I'm in need of some help. I have the Quick Fire TK keyboard with Cherry MX Blue switches and would like modify it a tiny bit. I want to change the switches of my two keys (Z and X), from Blue to Red.

Would it be possible to just take off the keycap, pull out the switch (using a screwdriver or something similiar) and swap it with Cherry MX Red?

Here's two links with demonstration:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLBXxzmuA_Q

If it's possible, which keyswitches should I get for this exact keyboard?
There are two options; PCB Mounted and Plate Mounted.

Thank you in advance,
Michael

The first demonstration link clearly states that it is for "strictly for PCB-Mounted Keyboard only".

And in the second demonstration link the second comment (six months old) states "Before trying this, please understand that it only works for pcb mounted switches... You cannot use this method for plate mounted switches (which basically encompasses almost every new mechanical keyboard out on the market)."

Both videos are quite 4 - 5 years old.

I looked around a bit (e.g., http://gaming.coolermaster.com/en/products/keyboards/quickfiretk/) to see if I could find out which option is used by the Quick Fire TK. Did not note anything either way.

Suggest you email the manufacturer and ask.

From my perspective, I doubt that the manufacturers would sell a product that can be modified that easily unless there is some profit to be had...... Plus there would be some liabilities created: someone would try a key swap using a utility knife, cut themselves, and sue.
