That's subjective. And to do a accurate comparison, we need a native 720 monitor vs a native 1080 monitor with the same specs, which doesn't exist. A high resolution on a small screen, is going to make things appear a lot smaller. However, you need to move up in size to see the extra detail going from 720 to 1080. Which is where viewing distance and visual acuity comes into play. We're all different. Picture a 2160 monitor at 24-inches. If you sit 3 feet away, you're not going to see the extra detail, but it'll still look sharper, because the pixels are more compact than a 1080 24-inch monitor. Not to mention how small objects on screen would look on a 2160 24-inch...
