Hi there, Im running 2 x 2560x1440 screens off a 980Ti.

1 display is an ASUS PG279Q running at 165 Htz @ 2560x1440 the 2nd Is a Dell U2711 in portrait mode (1440x2560 @ 60 Htz). Running any game even during intros there are massive lag spikes and hiccuping. I mean the game slows down to a crawl and is highly unresponsive. The only way I can fix this is by disabling the monitor before entering a game. Im running the game only on the ASUS and the game has been set to fullscreen. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice on how to fix this, as It would be great to do work and then game without having to contantly keep disabling/re-enabling the 2nd monitor. Cheers

There is almost no GPU performance consumption on the second monitor, Portrait mode, if a game is running on the main one. If you are doing something on the second monitor then of course there will be drops though. EX: Playing Youtube videos.., rendering videos.., etc..
Refer to here for more examples and a discussion: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2028470/dual-monitor-setup-effect-graphic-performance.html

ah heck. Thanks snowctrl. I just assumed as my brother runs 3 x 1080 120 htz monitors (6.2 Mill Pixels) off a 6Gb 7970 that my 6Gb 980 ti could run 2 x 1440 p monitors (7.3 Mill pixels). Even with the extra million pixels I just thought because of just gaming on the 1 monitor everything would be ok. Its strange, runs beautifully while on the desktop, just games poo poo themselves :(

Thanks again for the advice, sadly I'm running a Mini ITX system so SLI isnt an option at the moment.

Try doing as 13thMonkey said, see if that helps and let us know.

nope just hooked up the 2nd 1440 p monitor and started experiencing long durations of really terrible lag (3-4fps) then for maybe 30 seconds or so it would jump back to smooth as butter. Unless I need to manually do somthing, all I did was plug it in and set it to desktop. Again it runs fine on the desktop and brief moments in game :/

To clarify there is literrally nothing other than the desktop on the second monitor. I did have 1 tab open on it but still experience the issue when there is nothing but the desktop and task bar.

I still think this is a software issue, I'm on a lesser card with zero problems, I can even run Diablo 3 and FF 14 at the same time, THEN it chugs. I am curious however about the IGP option, what other benefits it may yield besides offloading from the dGPU.

I'll suggest the old tired advice of reinstalling the latest driver from nVidia, there is definitely some odd there. Hopefully not a hardware issue. FWIW I run DP+HDMI and I did the dual monitor from the start so the driver was installed with both screens present. Before I installed it the bog windows VGA driver didn't even see the second display.

thanks 13thmonkey and Yoplait95. I will give that a go. So I will need to enable the iGPU (I have a 4790K) in the bios, and plug the 2nd monitor in through that? Even If I get 1080 on it it will be better than nothing. Again cheers guys for the help and will let you know how it goes

Yeah an Oculus DK2. Hmm it shouldnt be with their runtime 8.0 it isnt treated as another monitor now. It works if a game is accessing it and is turned on now but will try unplugging that too

Hey guys. Tried again tonight, I tried plugging the monitor through the mobo's (maximus Impact 7 / 4790k) HDMI port. No dice and due to the Dell U2711 HDMI, only supports 1080p. Even still, games still completely die as soon as they start. (nothing running on the 2nd monitor). Tried G-Sync on and off on the ASUS, tried running both monitors set to 60 Htz nothing works. This is so depressing have no problems with gaming in the past working with 2 1080 monitors working in the games industry. I'm not sure if theres anything else to try unless you guys can suggest anything. Also just want to thank everyone anyway for all your help, cheers guys. *sniff :(

Uhhhh, ookkk. I updated my drivers from 359.00 to 359.06 not even restarted and now it works perfectly! What the hell!? It was just a game ready drvier for Rainbow 6 siege, so there wouldn't have been any fixes for this I assume. Either way Im not complaining! Woohoo!! Again thank you guys for all your help! :D
