I have been looking for a monitor that fits a specific criteria for a long time, and I am beginning to think such a panel does not exist...

I'm looking for a monitor that supports 1440p or at least 1080p, has deep blacks (so therefore IPS is out the window) and height adjustment. That's it, that's all I want, although height adjustment could be sacrificed in exchange for deep punchy blacks and colours.

I used to own an a cheap Acer panel which has the best colours I've seen on any monitor, but it was apparently TN which is regarded as one of the worst for colours - especially blacks. So what's going on? The Acer black level was near perfect bar a bit of backlight bleed, and the colours were rich too, it had a glossy screen however which maybe why it seemed to be so much better than the Asus 27" IPS panel I bought after it, which by comparison seemed washed out especially on blacks. Does anyone know of a monitor that matches the above description?

No IPS is going to produce deep blacks, that's impossible, not to mention the amount of defects IPS has compared to TN, and definitely VA. I would buy a VA.

2 minutes to find this one, meets your requirements: http://www.amazon.com/Acer-B226HQL-21-5-LED-Monitor/dp/B00BJ8JUD0/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449839881&sr=1-1&keywords=Acer+B226HQL

Other 24", 1920x1080, VA, height/tilt adjustment:

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-23-5-Screen-Monitor-S24E650C/dp/B010N07022/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449840489&sr=8-1&keywords=Samsung+S24E650C

32" 2560x1440, VA, height/tilt adjustment:

http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-BL3200PT-32-inch-Monitor-Creative/dp/B00ITORMNM/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449839654&sr=1-1&keywords=Benq+BL3200PT
(32", but 2560x1440 VA, height/tilt adjustment)

Point is, there are a lot of monitors that meets your requirements. However, the reason I'm ignoring IPS, is because only IPS TV's are using pixel dimming, so the blacks are deeper, monitors don't and look grey, even high end IPS looks grey. I'm not saying IPS is bad, just not what OP is after.

All the best!
