So i got my hdmi cable, and connected it to my pc.

Right now i have 2 monitors connected with DVI and I just plugged in the HDMI one.

For some reason i cannot get the HDMI one working, i am getting the error message "to extend the desktop a desktop or display must be disabled",

I have no idea what to do now, i read about some adapters but i know nothing of that stuff so can someone explain this step by step to me.

Thanks !

I'm having a similar issue...I'm trying to connect 3 identical monitors (DELL E2414HM) to 2x 6950 2GB in crossfire I'm using 1x VGA to DVI-I, 1x DVI -D to HDMI and 1x DVI-D to HDMI connected to HDMI to minidisplayport(RuiLing Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Active Converter MALE to FEMALE). Only the 2 DVI connected monitors are registering, it shows the VGA in display/screen resolution but says disconnect this display. When i try to change to extend this display it gives error stating can't save the settings...Please help this is driving me nuts....

My gpu is AMD Radeon XFX 270x

It will work with three without display port but the monitors on the DVI ports MUST be identical. So that's the first thing. what monitors are you using?

If you are using mismatched monitors you should be able to use a display port adapter to run one of the DVI monitors. Such as:
www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-DP2DVIS-DisplayPort-Active-Adapter/dp/B004SUO1GM

The adapter MUST say it's active. Not passive. For this to work.

So this is my GPU, and it seems i need mini display ports as i dont have a normal displayport port. That is correct ?

okay found one. https://www.links.hr/hr/adapter-delock-mini-displayport-m-na-dvi-i-245-z-4k-crni-200300251

I also found this one. https://www.links.hr/hr/adapter-delock-mini-displayport-m-na-hdmi-z-4k-crni-200300253
It is available where i live. But this one is for HDMI. That means i can use that one for hdmi and leave the DVI ones without adapters

I have 2 monitors, DVI connected and a TV with HDMI. The TV is connected right now but you know the drill. Remove one display bla bla bla.

So i think this adapter should do the job just fine.

Worth a shot. I'd still buy two of them, see if one works, and return if so. But if you need two, you'll at least have them on hand without having to put in a new order and then wait for a second delivery.
