I want to upgrade my CPU, but i'm confused.

Hello, Since Christmas is almost here, I've been wondering whether to upgrade my CPU. I currently have an Intel Pentium G3258 which has 2 cores and 2 threads and I've noticed a lot of the new AAA titles require a quad core to play them. I've been looking at some CPU's and i'm not sure how threads work. What i want to know is, will a dual core with 4 threads act the same as a quad core for gaming? I don't know how threads impact gaming.

I've been looking at the I3 4170 because it has 2 cores and 4 threads and is affordable but I'm not sure how much of a difference the extra 2 threads will have in gaming.

What i primarily want to know is will a cpu with 2 cores and 4 threads perform similarly to a quad core in gaming? and if it is worth it from having a 2 core, 2 thread cpu and going to a 2 core, 4 thread cpu.

yes,4 logical cores wont be perform as same as 4 physical cores
more physical cores more resource power

no,2 cores 4 threads will run slightly faster than 2 cores 2 threads
paying a lot money for slightly increase performance

for that AAA games, strongly recomended to use 4 cores CPU than 2 cores 4 threads

for budget first build, you could go for 2 cores 4 threads, but not for upgrade
