Advice on new monitor?

I have recently begun to consider upgrading the monitor for my PC. Since I have not purchased a new monitor in almost half a decade, I thought it might be a good idea to get some good advice from people who actually know things.

My current monitor is a Dell SX2210 21.5 inch display with a native resolution of 1920x1080.

I’d be open to a monitor that was somewhat larger, but not significantly so. I still need room for speakers on either side.

It is also important to me that I be able to run games at my monitor’s native resolution. If that means I can’t go higher than 1440p, or even that I should stick with 1080p, then so be it.

My pc has an i7-5820K processor, 16gb of ram, and GTX 780 3gb GPU.

As far as pricing, I’d like to stay under $300, if possible. But there may be a bit of flexibility.

Solution
1440 isn't going to run at 60 fps well if you play a newer title, unless you lower the settings a good amount. You could get 1440 for like Web browsing and still run games at 1080 if you have performance issues though.

Even if I'm not the type to care about getting more than 60fps?
