Hey Guys, I've been looking at getting a new computer but my budget is a little tight at the moment so thought I may be able to upgrade my current one. I'm looking at upgrading the processor I have an Aspire M3630 and think I have a
Intel® G31 Express Chipset by doing a google search. Whats the best I can get for £50-£100? Bare in mind I've never fitted a processor before can i just unscrew the fan and replace it?

Thanks for your time,

It is more a question of what Acer supports.

So you have a E4500. That's still a fine Dual Core CPU for every day use. I personally wouldn't upgrade it unless you can find a Q9xxx series CPU for cheap. Any Dual Core upgrade on that socket really isn't worth it.

That's pretty good build. Shadow703793 is right.

Hey guys, thanks for the response.

Well I run a program that can open up to 16 web browsers at once, MY computer can only manage 6-7 though so i thought the increased processing power might be able to help me add more to speed things up.

^ Only a Quad AND more RAM would help you out in that case. If you can find 2*2GB DDR2 RAM cheap, that would be the best upgrade for something like that. Check Ebay,Craigslist, etc for a Quad Core CPU. You should be able to find one cheap on those sites. If the BIOS supports it, get the Q9xxx else, the Q6600.

Quick question: When you run that program, does your CPU and/or RAM hit 80-100% use?

Hi Shadow thanks for the help with this, I recently brought more ram and maxed it our at 4gb. when i hit C-A-D in the system proformance the memory seems find its just the processor.

Is it ok to buy used? can see them going for around £60-75(Q6600)

Yes. It is fine to buy used, but make sure there is some kind of return policy, etc.

AA Q6600 for that price is a pretty good deal for your system.
