So I'm finally building my own PC and have managed to put a spec together I can potentially buy if compatible. I am completely new to all this and not incredibly technical with it all - so help is greatly appreciated.

Here's what I've got so far. This is a PC for gaming (I play pretty much anything).

Motherboard: Rog Maximus VIII Hero
CPU : Core i7-6700k
GPU: Gtx 980 gaming 4g
Fan: Corsair H90
RAM: 16gb Ripjaws V series DDR4 2666
Powersupply : Supernova 850W g2 80 plus gold
SSD: 850 EVO 500GB
Case : Noctic 450
HD : Not decided (not sure what to look for - value for money wise)
reader : " " "

Is there anything you would replace / add? Will this all work together?

Many thanks in advance for help.

2TB HDD's are pretty good value.

You can play on pcpartpicker.com and get a compatibility and price read right away.

There may be efficiencies or upgrades but you'd need a real gamer to say where they
are because you have a powerful CPU/GPU combination on a good mid-range MB which
should achieve your aims for a fast upgradeable and balanced system.

Nice build, no glaring errors at all.

Should I go for a less crazy CPU do you think?

Just a quick note : I was messing around with pcpartpicker.com - putting the components i wanted in and a compatibility message saying the following came up: ''The motherboard M.2 slot #0 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated, two SATA 6Gb/s ports are disabled.''.

Is this a real issue or something I can ignore?

You can likely ignore it. You probably won't max out your SATA connections in actual practice.
1 for the SSD, perhaps 2 for HDD's.
