This is what keeps newer systems from working on older vehicles (including remote lock/unlock) and vice versa.

Now, 2006 keyfobs can be found on eBay, etc and can be programmed to your vehicle, or ordered from GM.

There are also lots of aftermarket remote entry (that also include options for remote start) systems avail for your 2006, many times under 300 dollars installed from your local family owned car audio electronics stores, as well as the large, big box corporate stores like Best...
