Hi, so I've never built a PC before but I'm fed up of my old PC which just doesn't cut it anymore. I want to start from scratch but don't have a massive budget on which to do it. I think I've found some parts but I'd like an opinion on whether I can do better for similar money and whatnot :) I wanna be able to play recent games at reasonable settings at 1080p btw! So far I've found:

I'm thinking I'm just gonna move my current HDD over to the new system to save a bit of money on that plus I won't have to buy a new OS that way. Any opinions? :)

First things first, the intel cpu will not work in the amd motherboard.
The gpu is a solid choice, I have one and it'll run most of the modern games at high settings for 1080p/60fps
If you want to keep the intel cpu then I'd recommend something like: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/gigabyte-z97p-d3-intel-z97-socket-1150-ddr3-atx-motherboard-mb-498-gi.html
Or if you want to keep the AMD motherboard then I'd recommend getting: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-piledriver-fx-8-eight-core-8320-black-edition-3.50ghz-socket-am3-processor-retail-cp-337-am.html

Also what kind of case were you looking to use?

Doh! My bad on the motherboard I probably should have realised that! Thanks for pointing it out!

Was looking at just grabbing a fairly standard tower case. Not too worried about flashy looks or anything!

No worries! :)

If you don't want anything too flashy then I'd definitely recommend something from fractal design, maybe one of these? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/fractal-design-core-2500-midi-tower-case-black-ca-046-fd.html

Yeah that's pretty sweet actually.

Regarding the cpu thing, I've been told that if I wanna game then an Intel is the only way to go but the AMD chips seem to be considerably cheaper most of the time. I know the case is usually that you get what you pay for but if I'm not worried about playing things at ultra in 4k or whatever then is it worth saving a little and opting for something like the FX8320?

It really depends on what resolution you want to game at, the deficit between the 8320 and the i5 will be more pronounced at lower resolutions because the game is less gpu bound. If you game at 4k with say a 980 Ti, then both the 8320 and an i5 will perform the same if not very similarly. But if you were to reduce the resolution to 1080p then the i5 would start pulling ahead massively of the 8320.

But I would always recommend getting the best and most powerful hardware you can afford at the time. If you budget allows then definitely get the best Intel you can get, it'll be better in the long run
