Hello world,

I want to push the refresh rate of my computer to my monitor to 120hz. I have read online, and I believe it is possible with the laptop that I have. I am sort of new to refresh rates though, and do not totally understand what I am doing.

Originally, I was using HDMI to connect from the laptop to the monitor, and the maximum I could get was 60hz in NVIDIA control panel. I would like to be able to boost this to 120hz.

The laptop is equipped with two Mini DisplayPorts. According to MSI, the computer should be capable of outputting up to 120hz (hence the reason the mDP's were included - see reference link below).

Since HDMI is apparently not capable of more than 60hz, I need to use the mDP.

I bought a mDP to DVI adapter by J5Create (model no: JDA132). However, I can still only get 60hz refresh rate.

My questions are:
1) What do I need in order to achieve a higher refresh rate?
2) Is it possible to get a higher refresh rate with a mDP to DVI adapter? If not, why?
3) Is it possible to get a higher refresh rate using a mDP to DP cable? If so, which one?
4) Is there anything else I should know (I am new to this, and I would very much like to understand what I am doing)

What does single link mean? I provided the model number of the cable that I used.
