is 1440p video that much sharper on a 1440p monitor versus a 1080p monitor?

It seems like when I watch a 1440p clip on Youtube it's a lot sharper than 1080p on my 1080p monitor. What I'm wondering is - How much sharper does 1440p video look on a 1440p native display? Is it that noticeable to justify the extra money, etc?

it's all about pixel density.

For example, if you own a 27 inch 1080p monitor, you'll have a ppi (pixels per inch) of 81. A 1440p 27 inch monitor has a ppi of around 110. That's a pretty noticeable sharpness jump.

But, if you have a 23 inch 1080 monitor and compare it with a 1440 27 inch, the difference in ppi won't be as much as even a 10 ppi increase, so you won't notice the sharpness difference as much.

The main thing you're going to notice at 1440P is the amount of extra room for stuff on the screen and the sharpness will take a back seat unless you're using 27 inch 1080P or larger vs something the same size.

If you watch a video or play a game on a higher resolution than your native monitor resolution it won't make any physical difference. A 1440p monitor is quite a bit sharper though, and it can help sometimes where Anti-Aliasing features cant. It can be a very expensive piece of tech, and do be wary that if you're playing games on a monitor like that your GPU might not take it.

Having used 22" and 24" 1080p screens, and now being on 25" 1440p screens, the jump up is very noticeable, due to the increased pixel density. I wouldn't want to go below 25" for a 1440p screen, as things don't always scale very well in older software, and can get a bit on the small side.

youtube videos at 1440 or higher WILL look better on a 1080p monitor because youtube allows a higher bitrate and more bandwidth for videos above 1080p and there is less compression.

I can tell a massive difference between the 2, but to be fair my 1080p is a TN and my 1440p is an IPS once you go 1440p IPS it's hard to go back to 1080p especially when watch movies or playing games.
