Hey guys so about a month ago my computer started randomly restarting while playing NWN. I could still play League of Legends with no issues and I thought it was just NWN had some kind of bug with it. Well now I can't play League of Legends more than 5 minutes without my computer turning off. No BSOD, just straight restart.

My computer was running all games fine and everything until I believe after a windows update. I've tried to uninstall the update that happened around the time the errors started happening but I can't get the issue to go away.

I've tried:
-Memtest: 100% pass (It's not the RAM)
-Temp Test: Runs while gaming at about 70 C. That is right around normal temp for my laptop according to other users on the asus website.
-Turning off all audio drivers expect for one.
-Uninstalling updates from around the time the issue started happening.
-Updating all GPU drivers and Audio Drivers
-Using a different PSU
-FurMark Stress Test of GPU

My system is not overclocked, not overheating, doesn't have bad RAM, not the PSU. I've done quite a bit of google fu on the issue and can't find a solution. It seems like it happens to quite a few people and Microsoft doesn't give an answer. The Microsoft KB article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2028504 basically says to check everything I've done, and I've also done the additional steps at the very bottom of the article that says to uncheck the auto restart, my comp still auto restarts.

I have tried another circuit with no luck and something else weird just happened. After I did the stress test, I tried to play League of Legends again. I did not change any settings or anything, just did the stress test (which everything seemed pretty normal on it). I was able to play two 30 minute games without the computer restarting. However, my FPS went to like 20 FPS, when I normally run the game at 120 FPS or so. Now this FPS drop happened without any in-game settings being changed as well. So a stress test stopped the restarting, but the FPS is almost unplayable now. I'm stumped.

I have tried another PSU with same results prior to the stress test. So what I did was restart my computer after I saw the FPS drop. Ran 1 game of 142 FPS with no restart occuring. I'm going to test it again and see what happens tomorrow. Just find it extremely weird that a stress test has seemed to magically fix it for the time being. Would a stress test mess with anything settings wise? Or perhaps override some kind of auto shutoff that was preemptively getting triggered?

Not different "PSU" (actually a AC-DC converter, the DC-DC is entirely internal to the laptop), use only the battery (that is a laptop after all) and see if there's a better result.

Stress tests would probably heat up the system without drawing that much power, causing the CPU and GPU to go into thermal throttling before they can overload the power circuits. If your laptop's power system is broken (internal DC-DC, not just AC-DC), then it's possible to have it last longer when pre-heated)

So it was working fine for almost all day. Played a game tonight, restarted after 15 minutes into the game. Get the laptop back up, restarts after like 2 minutes of game time. Unplug it and just use the battery - doesn't restart. Since Neverwinter Nights was the original culprit and it would ALWAYS restart my computer after 1 or 2 minutes I tried that game as well with just the battery. The game lasted about 5 minutes, then restarted the computer. So it still did restart, but lasted considerably longer than normal(Even though 5 minutes and a restart is terrible).

For future reference if anyone else has this issue specifically with an ASUS G75VW laptop: http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-1768191/asus-g75-randomly-cutting-power.html

Basically the issue is the computer is malfunctional. How I "fixed" it was I underclocked my GPU from 620 MHz to 512 MHz using MSI Afterburner. I also turned off my keyboard backlight as a secondary precaution. The computer doesn't restart anymore while playing games. Since I don't feel like spending a couple grand on a new laptop right now, and the underclocking doesn't affect the game League of Legends i'm going to play like this until the computer completely gives out. But that was how I fixed it.

In other words, it's broken like I said... You should contact asus or your retail store about a replacement.

I bought the computer in July of 2012. Is there any chance at all ASUS would replace it? I'm not willing to pay for a replacement and as far as I know I only had 1 year warranty on it.

Absolutely zero chance they will give you something for free. It's simple system hardware failure caused by normal ware or abuse, neither of which will ever be covered. You can either have them repair it for you (likely 200-500 depending on model) or buy a replacement.
