HDD is making clicking sounds and a CD drive shows up on my computer and disappears. I also keep seeing the mouse change into a CD loading icon. When I click on it I get the empty CD tray message.

I cannot have more than one copy of file explorer open or else explorer.exe starts consuming high amounts of CPU. I've ran Malwarebytes and Avast and they found nothing. So I think its a hardware issue but I am not sure.

Any help would be great.

Sounds like the HDD is going. Use the manufacturers software (like SeaTools for Seagate) or HD Tune and check the health of your drive.

If the drive is failing, you'll want to make a back up immediately.

Hi there poggles,

The first thing you may want to do is to back up the data stored on the drive.
After that, you can attach it with different cables(both SATA and power ones) to a different SATA port. Also, you can test it with some of these: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

The issues you are facing could be caused by a failing drive but they could be caused by other things as well.
You can boot up into safe mode and see if this will help. In case the issue persists, then most probably this is a hardware problem.

Let me know how this goes,
