Update causing problems

I was on my computer earlier and it kept making the notification noise when something is plugged in. It wouldn't stop so I went to restart and saw that I had a update. I updated the computer and when it finished, nothing is working anymore. Everything I open either doesn't load at all or it does, but it's just a empty window. I don't have a restore point and it's very difficult to even open some program like control panel. Running dxdiag gave me an error notification that there was a problem accessing direct3d. Not sure if that is the problem or not. I'm assuming it was from the update since it all started after it was installed.
