CPU housing doesn't seem to want to close on mobo

I have an MSI z170a gaming m7 mobo first off. I've made sure the latch goes under the screw but when I move the lever it takes A LOT of pressure and I'm concerned about damaging the CPU. Any suggestions?

Took protector for socket off ?
Processor sitting flush ?

Sorry for the late response. Yes, I took the protector off and did finally get it closed. I just didn't anticipate having to use so much force on a component I always thought was very delicate.
