Hello,

I currently have a antec 650 PSU with an I5 2500k mild OC @4.0ghz

I was using a ref 290 and picked up a xfx 290 over Christmas for crossfire.

The antec PSU does not have the necessary connections for both cards.

How much power do I need and what is a good PSU I should get to power both cards and be future proof?

Also, what does bronze or gold designation mean on PSU specs?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi,

bronze or gold are efficiency ratings. The gold is a bit more efficient than a bronze model which means that a gold rated psu uses less power from the wall to deliver it's max capacity than a bronze psu.

With those gpu's would i look at a good 850watt psu just to be sure.Look at tiers 1+2 in the next list,

to keep it under $100 psu's like these,

thanks for the explanation. I understand now the difference.

I failed to mention my most important feature is quiet operation. Which PSU offers the power I need and is extremely quiet? Modular is a must as well.

I don't want to break the bank also, i'm located in Canada. I usually shop ncix/directcanada/newegg.ca

so i went ahead and bought this PSU:

Corsair RM850I

there was a 20 dollar MIR along with an existing discount which brought my total with shipping to $190.

I think this is a good deal considering the reviews seem solid, a 7 year warranty and the fact it seems to be whisper quiet.

hopefully it will serve me existing and future needs for years to come!
