I'm thinking of upgrading from my 32 inch Samsung TV to a proper gaming monitor, I was thinking of a Benq XL2411Z 24 inch monitor but it only has a DVI port and HDMI but I would like the option of a display port as well, or a ASUS VG248QE which is quite popular but I've read some reviews on it and most people say the colours aren't that great.

I only have a GTX 660 but I plan on upgrading that this year.

Thanks.

Dude a i recently build a 970 for a friend , bf4 144 fps? Ultra easy. I got...
might be a waste to get 144hz unless you are planning on getting a high end gpu like the 980 ti that can reproduce more than 60fps consistently. a single gtx 970 or an r9 390 will sit you right around 60fps in most cases. most 144hz monitors use the pannel type TN to bring down response times to 1ms. TN has inferior colors and viewing angles to IPS.

ideally i would recommend:

gpu: r9 390 or gtx 970
monitor: IPS / 1080p / 60-75hz / 5ms or less

23-24" is the sweet spot for 1080p.

i always thought its not needed, and you dont see much diffrence between 100 and 144, played 10 years on 60, then a few months ago i gotr my first benq 144 hz, dude, i never go back.
you see it even in browsing it just feels smooth, now when a game isnt reachgin 60fps due to a cap or something, i must remove it , normally you wouldnt even notice lol.

So if you spend decent amount of your time at your computer and got the money for it, just do it .

Well correct me if I am wrong but I think you would need to upgrade your 660 into something like 980ti, so if you can afford it go for it :) if not don' t waste your money on 144hz if you won't be able to utilize it... I am considering you going to play modern games...

Hi guys and thanks for your feedback. The main reason I was thinking about getting a monitor is because the picture on my TV just looks WRONG!!. I want to buy a monitor that has both a Display port and HDMI port, Those monitors I listed in my previous post happen to have both. GPU wise I don't think I'll be able to purchase a GTX 980 as I live Australia and they cost $749 AUD and the ti model cost $1049 AUD, so if upgraded my GPU it would be a 970.

If I do end up buying a 144hz monitor will the picture look shit if I'm running 60fps in BF4 or will the monitor scale down to 60hz?

Main games I play are: CSGO, BF4, Arma 3, Rising storm, War Thunder.

Dude a i recently build a 970 for a friend , bf4 144 fps? Ultra easy. I got an 980 myself , all games 100+ fps, but like sometimes some games go to maybe 110 drop, but you just dont enable vsync , you dont see that happen, just turn of your fps meter and enjoy a 970 is very powerfull and you say you play csgo you will get 250 fps and bf4 64 player big map drops to maybe 100 and small maps eazy 144 and it doesnt matter if it is lower sometimes because its always nice the monktor and you can keep it 5 years probably if not longer.

A good 144 hz monitor will display same fps as an 60hz monitor, only the 144 can go higher. You van also lower your video settings to get 100+ alot of pros do this
