How much difference in performance can I expect? I just noticed on amazon.in that there is not much difference in the cost of i3 4th gen and 6th gen. Is there a catch? Does 6th gen support DD3? Or just DDR4? What are the things that I need to take into consideration before buying either of them?

Is it worth the cost difference?

Not too much of a difference. I am assuming you are building a rig, not a laptop. Therefore, the only advantages that exist are the far faster GPU and DDR4 support. I would go with the 4th gen i3 that is fairly high-clocked (4370) and add things like an SSD.

Although the socket may be older as time rolls on prices will lower even farther, an if OP wants to upgrade to an i7 they will get better performance for price, though the socket may be older.

If you have to be on the bleeding edge of upgrade-ability, just go with the 6th gen.
