VGA to HDMI adapter or HDMI/DVI cable

Sorry if this is a nooby question, but I wanna be sure before buying anything. So I have an old 17inch monitor that only has VGA and DVI-D outputs and my current gpu has HDMI and 2 Mini DisplayPorts (DVI-I is used by main monitor). I want to use my old 17incher as secondary monitor but I only have a VGA cable.
so should i get a VGA to HDMI adapter like this? http://i.imgur.com/FVhJUBb.jpg
or should i get a HDMI/DVI cable like this http://i.imgur.com/CL9eVT3.jpg

The HDMI to DVI cable.
The VGA to HDMI would not work (converter needed).
