Hi

I want to the know diffrence between

Intel® Core™ i7-620M (2.66Ghz, 4 Thread, turbo boost up to 3.33 GHz, 4MB cache

and

Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Mobile Processor (1.6GHz, turbo up to 2.8GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)

The 720 is 120 pounds (UK) cheaper on dell laptops while it has more cache!!!!!!!!!

I need the laptop for heavy 3D design and analysis applications and apparently the i7-620 has integrated graphic , Intel HD graphic, etc which these not available in i7-720.

Do you think it's worth to pay about $200 more to get the 620 with lower cache?

Is higher speed (3.33 compare to 2.8) better than higher cache(4MB chache to 6MB L3)?

Thank you

The Core i7 620M is a dual core with Hyper-Threading, but a Core i7 720QM is a quad core with Hyper-Threading. I'd go for the i7 720QM if you need are doing heavy 3D design and analysis questions.

Thank you Lmeow,

so why the i7 720QM is about $200 cheaper than i7 620? is it because the 620 has a 2010 technology and 720 is a 2009?

IF you are doing heavy duty 3D graphics, Then go for high end GPU or graphics cards along with reasonable CPU. High end processors are only required for large computation softwares like MATLAB, PSPICE ETC.

I'd assume so, and apart from the newer technology it also has an integrated GPU which is useful if you do not need any dedicated graphics power.

Besides, it's Intel - they are selling Core i5 680s for around the same price as a Core i7 870 or 930.
