Hi all

This will be my first time building a custom PC and would like some opinions on the parts I have chosen. To respect the forum rules I have answered the standard formatted questions below, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Approximate Purchase Date:This month

Budget Range: £1000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming + VR (Oculus Rift or HTC )

Are you buying a monitor: No, I already have a 4K monitor

Parts to Upgrade: processor, motherboard, PSU, CPU Cooler, RAM, Casing. I already own an Asus Strix GTX 980 for the GPU, and will use HDD (3Tb), Optical Drive, Wifi and sound cards from previous PC.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes - Windows 10 64gb Home edition

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Amazon UK

Location: City, State/Region, Country - London, UK

Parts Preferences: Here is my shortlist
Intel i7 6700k Skylake @ 4Ghz
MSI Z170A M7 Motherboard
Corsair H100i All in one CPU watercooler
Corsair RM850 PSU
Corsair LPX 16GB 3000hz DDR4 Ram
NZTX Phantom 530 (White) case

Overclocking: Maybe - not comfortable yet in my own knowledge to safely overclock

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe - might SLI in the future

Your Monitor Resolution: 3840 x 2160 (4K)

Additional Comments: I want a PC that is future proof for gaming and VR. I also want to make sure I can modulate parts easily if I want to upgrade a specific component in the future. Finally, I would like the PC to be as silent as possible.

Thanks!

Boeing

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: (e.g. I'm having trouble running game X or my PSU broke)

For gaming? I'd get another 980 and drop down to an i5.

thanks for your reply raihan. I'm keeping my options open in terms of SLI, but indeed a second 980 is on the cards once my build is completed.

The CPU aspect is where I get a bit more confused. Why would an i5 be superior for gaming than an i7? Does it have to do with potentially having stronger individual cores ( I understand that games usually only use two) rather than more weaker cores?
