if i overclock my amd athlon 860k from 3.7 to 4.2 will i see any difference in games frame rate improvements etc and will it also handle my r9 380x nitro thank you and just to let you know im using a cooler master hyper 212 evo if you wanted to know what cpu fan i was using. again thank you if you can help me out with this

Overclocking also depends on the motherboard and PSU used, and the 'luck' you would have with your CPU. But usually an 860k should get to about 4ghz pretty easy. The difference from 3.7 to 4.2 isn't much, so you will see an increase in framerates, but you might not notice it in some games. The 860K is a good match for the 380x if overclocked to 4ghz or higher.

If you are still deciding, a better match for your 860K would be a R9 380/R9 285, or GTX 960. Anything higher would still perform about the same as these GPU's, since they would be somewhat limited by the CPU. The 380x is a small step above these GPU's and still would be a good match, just make sure you can overclock the CPU well. Also note that this would be for a 1080p resolution, a higher resolution wouldn't work very well.

For overclocking your motherboard is not the best, since its VRM's don't have heatsinks, meaning they will heat up quickly when overclocking. But still should be able to overclock some on that board. Don't expect to get 5ghz though, a stable 4.5ghz would already be hard I think. You could put a heatsink on it yourself though, see if it helps.
