Deleting Primary Partition

Hello,

First off, this isn't really win10 related, but since it's what I have...

Anyway, a while ago, I was playing with booting instalations from a HDD, which worked, but now it seems I'm stuck with the partition I used to store the installation on.

So I have two questions:

1. To delete the H partition, I need to first set the C one to active, correct?
2. Is it even safe to delete the partition since it's a "system" partition?

The H partition is empty as far as general files go, but since it's bootale, it always shows up as a boot option, which is midly annoying.

Solution
if you dont want to see it as a boot option

and assuming if you tell it to boot of C it does so successfully

right click this pc/my pc

left click properties

left click advanced system settings

in the start up and recovery section left click settings

select which one you want as default in the drop down box

change time to display list of operating systems to 0

click ok and restart pc

if both say windows 10 make sure you set the right one as default as setting 0 seconds wont let you be able to change at boot up

Solution
or make sure to back up anything important just in case

mark C active delete H restart if it boots then fine if it doesnt

boot of the dvd/usb windows you used to install it

go to the command prompt and use bootrec /fixmbr or bootrec /fixboot etc to fix the boot record

Interesting workaround.

Well, it's an option but I was hoping for a way to get rid of the partition entirely without reinstalling my OS from scratch.

Guess it's not going to be easy.

EDIT: option 2 seems doable, guess I'll give it a shot.

Hi

Windows since Vista has put its boot files in a small hidden partition at the begining of the hard disk

with a folder \boot\ which has lots of sub folders and a BCD database
sometimes this is combined with a recovery system partition

10GB is a small amount of space and not worry worrying about considering the risk of things going wrong if removed.

If you decide to make changes ensure you have a backup of all important data and a bootable Windows 10 DVD or USB available.

regards
Mike Barnes

the first option was the safe option since you only hide it from view no risk involved

the second option carries a risk so as said back up anything important just in case

Seems I can shrink it another 5GB, so a question.

Is it possible to simply hide the drive from the Drive and Boot options?

It seems I can hide the drive by simply removing the drive letter, and as for the boot option, it seems I can remove it from the msconfig boot tab.

About the msconfig though, would this cause issues?

@mcnumpty23: much appreciated

EDIT: ah, just occured to me I can use mcnumpty23's trick to skip the options.

Well, that should be able to hide it.
