Hi,

Sorry if I post an atrocious system with my goals in mind but it will be my first build and I thought that there's no better place to get advice than tomshardware...

So, I'm looking to use this mostly as a Music Production system and Gaming at 1080p with ultra high to max settings on most modern titles...

If you have any suggestions or advise it would be greatly appreciated!

AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+

G.Skill Sniper Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866

Crucial BX200 240GB

Western Digital Red 4TB

MSI R7 370 Gaming 4GB

Corsair CSM 450W 80+ Gold

Corsair 200R

leqtribe,

Tere's nothing too far off the mark in your proposed system- perhaps have a 500W PSU- but you might consider a recent used system with better CPU performance to be able to use very high settings on modern games. How about:

NEW!! Dell OptiPlex 7020 (500 GB, Intel Core i7-4790, 3.6 GHz, 8 GB) PC Desktop > sold for $402 + $35 shipping on 1.28.16

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Dell-OptiPlex-7020-500-GB-Intel-Core-i7-4790-3-6-GHz-8-GB-PC-Desktop-/371537892433?hash=item5681625451%3Ag%3A%7Eq8AAOSwuYVWoTNi&nma=true&si=v3IfjTqZP5jN5Xvss6NiUrTyw38%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Then, add the SSD, HD, and GPU of choice. The i7-4790 has a single-threaded performance of 2073 while the AMD FX-6300 single-threaded scores 1409. And therein lies the whole story.

If you're doing heavy multi-tracking, effect processing that may be multi-threaded, keep in mind that a 6-core AMD is the equivalent of a mythological three-core Intel so the i7-4790 is running 8 threads as compared to 6- or a 50% increase for audio editing.

Plus, you don't have to order assemble and wire everything- just some easy plug- in upgrades. Finally, buying this way, the eventual resale will be a much higher proportion of the investment.

I might mention that I have a dedicated recording / editing system that seems to run quite well off a Core 2 Quad Q6600, but this is two channel 16 / 96 and either MIDI (Yamaha S90) or live (Kawai KG5). I use 2X Oktava M012 to Peavey VMP2 mic pre and into EMU 0404 and Cakewalk Essentials- Sonar really, really Jr. Pretty good results though. What interface and software are you using?

Cheers,
