Hdmi to dvi to mini display-port

Hello

I have an apple cinema display which I used to connect to my pc using a gefen dvi to mini displayport. (This one: http://www.gefen.com/kvm/ext-dvi-2-mdp.jsp?prod_id=8913 )

Now I want to plug this in a hdmi port on my pc, so I connect an hdmi cabel to an hdmi to dvi adapter which then plugs in to the converter to mini displayport.
But I don't get any image.
Does anybody know why?

That's alot of adapters, too many. I have an HDMI to mini DP for my Surface....perhaps that is the way to go.

But it's a digital signal, so the length does not matter that much does it?
