Can I make a VGA-only monitor work with a new GPU?

Hello fellow techies, my monitor recently died and someone lent me a quite old 1680x1050 one which only comes with a single VGA port.

Problem is, my GPU and integrated graphics only have DVI-D connectors, is there any way I can make it work?

I know DVI-D only carries digital signal, and that a passive adaptor won't work, but some people online said a DVI to VGA cable may work. Is that true or am I SOL?

some vga cables and adaptors will work. depends if they block the sink signal needed to turn on the monitor. if you have a local radio shack or pc parts store that has a return policy pick up both and return the part that you dont need.

this is an active adaptor, this will work. this will convert from digital to analog.

What's more likely to work, a DVI-A to VGA cable or an adaptor? Sadly I don't have a store with a return policy so i'll try my luck
