I am trying to decide if It would be worth it to upgrade from my amd athlon x2 260 to an intel g3258, of course I would get a new motherboard but would it be worth it. I could get the g3258 plus a motherboard for around 100$ I only use my computer for gaming such as world of warcraft and counter strike global offensive, and other steam games.

MCP61PM-GM (rev 2.4) is the motherboard I have now. It its has a 89max watt rating and its suppose to only use a am2 socket but i added the amd 260 not too long ago which is an am3 socket.

I have two G3258s and they are very stout, but out of date now. The chip overclocks quite well on an 'ordinary' motherboard and with the stock CPU cooler.

This would be a decent chouce.

One of my chips gets to 4.2Ghz, the other to 4.5Ghz.

This is a decent AMD alternative
