Hi there, I'm new new to this Thunderbolt subject. Hoping you will help :)

My brother has bought me an ASUS ROG G501VW laptop and a Samsung U28D590 28" 4K monitor along with it. Actually i haven't tried anything out because I have not received it yet.

Laptop: https://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-G501VW/specifications/
Monitor: http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/it/monitor/uhd-monitor/LU28D590DS/XL

The laptop has 1xHDMI + 1xThunderbolt port (Mini Displayport) and the monitor has a Standard Displayport. Since i need 4K @ 60Hz i'm hoping to use the laptop's Thunderbolt port.

So I already ordered a Thunderbolt-ready cable from Amazone: (Dont know whether its good enough :ange: )
http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-Certified--DisplayPort-ThunderBolt-Displayport/dp/B0197703YE/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1456140035&sr=1-3&keywords=thunderbolt+4k+60hz

So the question is, will the above monitor work fine when its Displayport is connected to the laptop's Thurderbolt port? Shouldn't the monitor too be Thunderbolt-ready or something?

If not, will the HDMI port be fast enough to transfer 4K @60Hz from the same above cable?

Thanks in advance! :)

You can connect a Thunderbolt laptop to a displayport monitor without a problem, no needs to worry, that is actually what it is made for, just apple put a little extra on the mini display port so you can look at the thunderbolt port as a mini display port with a little flavor.

Gingerbread; Thanks for putting it simply. I think i'll go with that thunderbolt cable itself then. No need for HDMI

nigelivey: Thats good to know so i can go secondary as HDMI for my PC. But for now the displayport seems to work which means 4k would be possible with the laptop.

Thank you very much both for the quick response!
