I have used a couple of WD elements HD for my windows 8 successfully in the past on my usb3 and have just tried to upgrade to a 1TB Toshiba HD that has been formatted for a Viera TV. Now I would like to reformat it for my Windows 10 laptop. Have tried unsuccessfully and would appreciate some help.

Hi there joclyde,

What do you mean by unsuccessfully? Did you get some sort of an error message? Is the drive recognized by Disk Management and how?
Here's how you can reformat a drive: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=nwSB9h

In case you get some sort of an error message, it may be a good idea to test the drive: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Apart from that, you can attach it to another system(with different OS) and see if it will work over there.

Let me know how this goes,

Tk U D_Know_WD No error message and is obviously showing in Disk Management but not identified with any reference as other HD's are - including my previous as Disk F. Shows only as 980gb and a blue rectangle comes up in LH column when I click on it. Also does not give me the option to Format in the drop down menu Only option highlighted is to 'Delete Volume' Have not yet used your links for reformatting or test drive however I have connected my WD My Passport which identifies itself as DISK F and is working fine. Really appreciate your help Tk U

Could you provide a screenshot of Disk Management? You can just upload the screenshot in a website and post it here.
Does the drive have a letter assigned? You may need to assign one. You have that option when you right click on the drive when in Disk Management right?

Thank you. I have persisted in following your instructions and I was stupidly not following the delete volume option. Disc now reformatted. Thank you very much for your help
