Is this motherboard compatible with my FX-8350?

Hello,

I had a pc put together by a local company a couple of months ago and they messed up with the compatibility of the mobo and cpu.
They admitted their mistake and are now offering a free replacement mobo, now i just want to make sure this one will work properly with my FX-8350.

They are putting in the ASRock 970M Pro3.

Now my questions are:
- Will it work 100% with this cpu?
- Do i need extra cooling for this combination?
- Should i just claim this mobo and sell it and then upgrade my case and mobo to ATX or just stick with this one?

Greetings

That doesn't make much sense... unless it was the supported wattage on the board...

The am3+ socket matches but the 125w 83xx chips require 4+1 power phase. 3 or 3+1 are either not going to support it or will be unstable if you do get it to work.

Gotcha, how do you know what power phase it has? Is it in the specs of the motherboard? Sorry for jacking the thread OP.

Am gonna get it tomorrow anyway, i could do some testing with it and post it here but i am probably going to upgrade my case to ATX and better cooling because the case i have now has no space for extra cooling since it's really tiny.

What case do you have currently? You might be able to add 1 or 2 high cfm fans to make a world of difference rather than a whole new case. Corsair has some amazing fans. I'll post 2 packs of 2 fans that you could put on a low rpm and give you a positive air pressure even if you've got a bunch of stock exhaust fans (which doesn't sound like the case anyways, but positive pressure is better!).

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Case Fan: Corsair Air Series SP120 High Performance Edition (2-Pack) 62.7 CFM 120mm Fans ($21.99 @ Newegg)
Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF120 Quiet Edition (2-Pack) 39.9 CFM 120mm Fans ($25.88 @ OutletPC)
Total: $47.87

The difference being tha SP fans move more air and AF fans are quieter.

If you haven't gotten your motherboard yet I highly endorse this one for moderate overclocking and total stability with the FX 8350.

It is a great value, has 8+2 power phase (while 4+1 power phase will technically work for 8 core FX you really should have 8+2 power phase for it to work properly - 8+2 is also a requirement if your going to overclock) and the motherboard also has VRM cooling. With this motherboard you can get moderate overclocks of ~4.5Ghz on average. If you want a motherboard with better overclocking capabilities you are looking more at Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 or Crosshair V Formula Z 990FX. With the high end Asus boards you can get the maximum overclock out of your FX 8350. Really though, for most users the above linked motherboard is perfect.

+1
Hopefully they'd be willing to do it with their mistake. Even if they wanted a little extra $$.
