Windows 10 boot and black screen with underscore

Hey.
My PC has been running for 10 months and today when I tried to boot it up it went past the BIOS and into a black screen with a underscore flashing in the top left. I have tried removing the CMOS booter and that has done nothing. I need help soon as possible.

Intel i5 5940k
Asus z97-ar
EVGA 970
SSD (w/ OS)
HDD

sounds like it cant find a boot device, try booting off the windows 10 install disk: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10 and run start up repair, or sfc/scannow in command prompt

I don't have a disc drive and have lost the USB thingy. And how could this have happened it booted under 5 hours ago. Thanks for the fast response

The Microsoft link is to the download of win 10, just make a new copy. You need a 4gb USB to boot off. The program will create a bootable USB for you.

If I knew why or how hardware broke I could be a rich man. alas, I don't.

So how would I do that (I'm not great at all the software stuff)

Your motherboard (Like my own) doesn't let you boot from a USB, I am trying to work out how to get to advanced start up, and I don't know... can you borrow a DVD drive at all? It just makes it easier...

catch 22: You could boot from a USB drive if we could get to adv start up, but cannot get there without a boot device

I can get into the BIOS and can select boot device from there.

you probably won't find a USB in the list of boot devices.

Your bios probably doesn't look like photos on link, I know mine doesn't

I was wrong about something, you can get to advanced boot by spamming F8 at start up, then select the device you want to boot from in here, no need to edit bios

Hi I had same problem and solved it by holding down F12 while switching on pc.
