A new CG build (a 'generation behind'... X99, 2011v3, 5930K, 980Ti); have a laugh (look) and some advice?

Hi...
Short version: the wife has pulled the trigger on funds for a new machine, I'm currently running a 7 year old X58 build, only upgrade was for 24G RAM and a GTX680. So, X99 is completely freaking new, so to speak, and I think still a better option? As well, budget is a factor. Thoughts?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Approximate Purchase Date: by 3/27/16

Budget Range: $2500 USD

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Straight up CG. App list will follow; model/texture/rig/anim, tutorial watching, 2D and 3D apps (color accuracy). High poly count assets, some deforming/animating while being textured.

Parts Not Required: Mouse, keyboard, audio, power supply (being donated, will list).

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg; amazon and B&H pending savings %.

Country:US

Parts Preferences: Limited experience. Current sys contains Gigabyte board (very happy), Intel processor, Kingston RAM, unsure as to GTX680 manufacturer, WD hard drives, all in an Antec case. (Built July 2009)

So let's say Gigabyte, Intel, Kingston or Corsair, Western Digital, but allow for MSI, Samsung.

Overclocking: No.

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe (in short, I've got 15 game titles out but am not a gamer. Yeah, it's weird. not in industry currently, but am curious with options for cg apps making use of.

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 on 23/24" monitors.

Additional Comments: Thanks for reading this bit. I have quite an extensive app list, to add just below, but I have made choices with the following assumptions, gleaned from a bit of experience in cg and animation.

RAM for CG: More > Faster.
GPU: Eff workstation cards. I need to pay attn to software supported cards, and a 980Ti is on the lists.
Multiple drives: Cover Your Ass as well as one app requiring 250G of cache space, plus scratch disc for PShop, that sort of thing. OS drive (250G SSD), App drive (250G SSD), Data drive X2 (one backs up the other).

??? Either OS or App to do second service as cache drive, so boost it to a 512? Third drive for the cache requirement is better?

Local rendering: yeah it would be nice to be able to do, I create large images at times, as well as extensive anims, so local rendering is nice. But, farm pricing is not horrible if I can get clients to pay for it.

GPU rendering- I do not yet really make use of apps that look to the gpu for help, but may buy Octane Renderer before long.

App list:

Modo 902
Maya 2015
zBrush 4R7
Mari 3.02
Photoshop CC 2015
AfterEffects CC 2015
Nuke 7
3DCoat v4
Substance Painter 2
Marvelous Designer 3
Keyshot 5

May acquire:
Octane Renderer

Parts under consideration, please feel free to comment and question!

CPU- i7 5930K (6 cores at 3.5 seems all right to me... and cost is a factor)

Motherboard- Gigabyte GA-X99-SLI ATX LGA2011-3. I don't know enough to read a board's physical config and match components by placement/interference...

GPU- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB WINDFORCE 3X (there's some good advice around on choosing a 980Ti, but jeez, it's still a chore)

RAM- Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2400. I'm assuming the RAM speed is not an issue for the board and processor???

CASE- Antec Twelve Hundred V3 ATX Full. I have the older Antec, I rather like it, but bells/whistles mean snot to me, same with side panels. If it cools, is quiet-ish, and has space to let the cables get to where they need to be, sweet.

COOLER- Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing. I read so much good, but a concern over it fitting the above case with it's side fan.

STORAGE- Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" SSDs -X2- (OS, App) 512 if one can handle being a cache/scratch space as well???
STORAGE- Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB -X2- (data and back-up)

OPTICAL- a simple enough burner.

Power Supply is being donated, aThermaltake Toughpower W0178RU 850W.

OS: Sticking with Windows 7 Ult, thank you....

Right now this all hovers at around 2k. Might need another drive for cache, might not.

Add'l needs (not mandatory in this build but...)
Second 23/24" monitor for cg/color.
Calibration hard/software.
Replacing a ten year old Wacom tablet.

Thanks for reading! Have at it...

this is good enough, with a overclocking option in the future, as well as a GPU upgrade if you want.
the 500GB drive is for the OS and key applications, and the 128 is a cache drive.

Thanks for the above! I have wondered about stepping down to the 3.3, as I won't be over-clocking and will likely only ever use one GPU...
128 cache would get eaten up by Mari in a heartbeat (my meshes are massive, typically hero level or anywhere from stand-in up to I can count the hairs/rivets, and Mari layers get deep, commonly using 15-18 4k udims on a lot of meshes, and 6 map types most days- both organic and mechanical, and aren't often conveniently broken down), but these are _great_ recs, will keep looking and adjusting.

Thanks again....
