I have a monitor which should run at 144hz however its running at 60hz on Geforce experience and has no option to change it to 144hz, Im running it through a 144hz DP connection so this should be no problem.
Like kyzarvs said, you should look into the settings of the actual, physical monitor. Press some buttons, guide yourself into the settings, and see what you find. There will most likely be an option to alter the refresh rate of the monitor. Some (gaming) monitors can be changed from 60Hz to 120Hz all the way to 144Hz. Although some models will differ.
Right click the desktop, go to display resolution/properties, choose advanced, adapter setting, click display tab, and then change the refresh rate from there. also be sure to be using dual-link dvi or display port.
